Spring Conditioning - Practice Resumes on Monday, April 1
Hey all,
For those who have signed up for swim in April and May, we will resume practices at the Y starting this coming Monday, April 1st.
For those in White Group, practice time is from 6:15-7:00. And for those in Red Group, they will go from 7:00-8:15. And as usual, both groups practice Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you're not sure of your swimmers group, please let me know.
The last practice for this session is Thursday, May 16th. And the only other calendar note is that we won't practice on Thursday, May 9th, due to All Schools Day festivities and all of the happenings around town.
Summers season will then kick off on Tuesday, May 28th (weather/conditions pending, of course)
Also, on group times, I know we had a handful of red group swimmers start practicing at the earlier time during the fall and winter. But now, with our numbers a bit smaller for this session, and with the pool space not as limited, I would like to return to keeping White and Red group times separated. So please plan on having your swimmer(s) at the pool for those times mentioned above for their appropriate group.
Apologies for any inconvenience, but in keeping those times separate, it really does allow for a smoother practice for the swimmers and the coaches ;)
Aside from that, I know we have a few new swimmers starting up, so just a few quick notes and reminders about swim team in general:
-For practice, please send your swimmers to the pool with their suit, goggles, and a towel. This is the "basic uniform".
I do occasionally have goggles for swimmers to borrow, but they have a tendency to walk off and disappear. So your swimmers should not expect to rely on me or Coach Brenda for goggles.
-Practice suits/swimwear can be whatever is comfortable for your swimmer. We do recommend one-piece suits for girls, and for any competition/meets that we may attend, those are required. For boys, a jammer style suit is typical, but board shorts are OK as well.
-Swim caps are not required for practice, but if your swimmer would like one, and does not have one, I do have some latex caps available free of charge.
-There's no penalty for being late or missing a practice, we totally understand that schedules are busy and that spring time can be a bit crazy in general. However, it is recommended for swimmers to be on deck a few minutes early to their practice time.
-For both practice groups/times, being extra early usually isn't a bad thing. However, just a reminder that they won't be allowed to enter the water until our allotted time. For red groupers in particular, as coaches we are working with white group swimmers right up until 7:00, so just a reminder to keep any chit chatting to a respectable noise level, and not to interfere with white groups practice.
Thanks, let me know if you have any questions, and Coach Brenda and I are excited to see everyone back at the pool!
-Coach Kyle
